Working through some older finds now with the benefit of a microscope and some pretty average microscopic spore photos. I know from past experience with this genus that this will likely be a challenge, but here goes…

Found in mixed woodland surrounding a spruce plantation, 20th October, in Sussex. Cap diameter was 5-6 cm, dry and cream coloured with a yellow/brown flush. Stipe was club shaped and the same colour as the cap. Gills were free, dark pink with white edges, serrated with some brown spots. Spore print rust brown.

Excuse my inability to grasp spore terms, but hopefully the photo provides details as to shape and size.

Welcome and thoughts as to narrowing down id

      thanks as always

The violaceous banding on the stem makes me think these are rather dried Cort. anamolous poss!

Thanks PMG, c. anamolous ticks a few boxes and I recall that conditions were dry that week. I also contemplated c. alboviolaceus on account of the gill edges – Fungi of Temperate Europe pointing to the serated pale edges of this species. Thanks for the suggestion.

I thought about alboviolaceous too funnily enough!! But I hadn’t noticed the gill edges – with that information I think I would go albov! But, but but those lines in the stipe are so suggestive of anomolus !! I guess its going to be one of those times with a big question mark hanging over!
