Pendulous sedge fungus

Not even sure its fungal – I assumed I could find out easily (wrongly!) on Carex pendula in Cornwall – Anyone got any ideas.

it’s the smut Farysia thuemenii – nice find; note how it’s specifically attacking the utricles (ovaries) . . .

I see my mate Jerry Cooper has beaten you to this, but only the 2nd Cornish record on C. pendula:

Delighted to find this on Lesser Pond Sedge today: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/165894814. Went and checked additional patches of the host this afternoon and found quite a bit more in various stages. None on Pendulous Sedge in the same locations though.
