Help with this one please! Clusters of what look like shallow cups less than 0.5mm at present. Lemon yellow colour. They are on cut stump of live Hazel.

B.citrina seems a possibility. Are there similar coloured Ascos out there? Appreciate this may come down to microscopy which unfortunately I don’t do.

    Photo 1 USBx10 photo 2 USBx60 – best I can do!

    Hello,

I don’t think this is Bisporella citrina, it is much too pale and the stipe seems too thin and Bisporella citrina always occurs gregarious and not as one apothecium only.

This might be Bisporella subpallida or B. pallida, or a Hymenoscyphus, or it may eventually be a Hyalorbilia, or may be still something else – I don’ t think you will get even the genus for sure without microscopy …

    best regards,

    Andreas

Many thanks for your comments – I didn’t think it would be easy! We don’t have any experts on Ascos within Glamorgan Fungus Group so I think best to leave this as ‘unknown’

    Best regards,
