Phragmidium violaceum Uredial and Telial Stages on Bramble.

Post by Lancashire Lad » Sun Jul 26, 2015 2:08 pm

Found yesterday: -

The uredial and telial stages of Phragmidium violaceum, on live leaves of Rubus sp. - Bramble.

The leaf on the left hand side of the photo is showing teliosori, whilst the leaf on the right hand side is showing uredosori.
Both leaves here were collected, about 150mm apart, from the same plant.

Phragmidium spp. on Bramble are very common around me. However without microscope or knowledge of Bramble microspecies I can't determine which sp. I have 1 specimen to send to Nigel Stringer - I won't overload him with mutiple specimens just too many! I'm trying to learn about Rusts but still very much a beginner!

Interesting post, Mike, fantastic to see both stages on the same fungus. Not seeing so many rusts at the moment though..
