Not even sure its fungal - I assumed I could find out easily (wrongly!) on Carex pendula in Cornwall - Anyone got any ideas.

Thanks

Hi Mark
it's the smut Farysia thuemenii - nice find; note how it's specifically attacking the utricles (ovaries) . . .

I see my mate Jerry Cooper has beaten you to this, but only the 2nd Cornish record on C. pendula:
http://www.fieldmycology.net/FRDBI/FRDB ... +thuemenii

and only one other record for Cornwall for this fungus (Perranporth 1952 on Carex riparia) as far as I can see.

best wishes
Chris

Hi Mark

https://erccis.org.uk/

you can also add records (including photographs) directly to the new BMS site; easy and free to join in - see http://frdbi.info/
