Hello and welcome to UKFungi
In future it might be an idea to post on the Fungus ID Request thread viewforum.php?f=4 . . .

Your fungus is actually not a fungus ;) . It's a slime mould Reticularia lycoperdon also known as Enteridium lycoperdon. It's not uncommon, especially in the spring. More info on it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enteridium_lycoperdon. There is an excellent website dedicated to these fascinating organisms, with excellent photographs, here: http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20p?see=I_UARK/0001 lots of images of the Reticularia here: http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20p?res= ... lags=col5:

best wishes
Chris

PS I quite regularly pass this area on the train to and from Scarborough. I've never collected there, but that area around Kirkham Abbey, well-treed and with plenty of marshy spots, always strikes me as very promising - must visit soon . . .
