Trichobolus

Post by Flaxton » Thu Dec 17, 2015 12:06 am

I brought back a few dung samples from a trip to the IOM and it has produced one or two really interesting ascos.
This was the best of the bunch.
It looked like a Lasiobolus with its long non-septate hairs

but this one had septate hairs and I could not find any species which had this feature.

With the help as ever from Ascofrance it was keyed out as a species only described a few years ago Trichobolus dextrinoidosetosus.
The key features were the septate hairs with swollen and sometimes simple roots which are dextrinoid. Other Trichobolus have huge asci with anything between 1500 - 8000 spores. This new species has only 8.

Not on FRDBI yet but hopefully will be soon.
