ID sought of Ascomycete with triangular apo's

Post by corzon » Sat Jan 28, 2017 8:16 pm

This is my first post on this forum - I'm looking forward to all your input!

See attached photos. I found this beautiful artwork at Tenerife, in the laural forest. I wonder whether anyone can help me with identifying the fungus?

Thanks for your input!

Kind regards

"I wonder if this this could be in the genus Coccomyces

The similarity to spalted Beech is remarkable with the black zone lines
being boundary lines no doubt.

The photo on the wikipedia page indeed looks similar in broad features. The question then is whether there is a Coccomyces with triangular apo's.

Here's a relevant link:

So it looks like Coccomyces is safe and delta is quite possible; hence I will file it as Coccoymces cf. delta.

Thanks Neil!
