Mushroom i.d.

Please try to include photos to show all parts of the fungus, eg top, stem, and gills.
Note any smells, and associated trees or plants (eg oak, birch). A spore print can be very useful.

Mushroom i.d.

Post by Rodders » Thu Jun 27, 2019 8:12 am

Hi all, please see pic's of fungi I'd like identified, they're growing for the first time in a grass verge opposite me,they're under a hawthorn hedge on the edge of a farmers field, the largest is approx 6 inches diameter.I'd like to know if edible or inedible,if they could be danger to health I'd rather remove and discard safely.
Thanks for any info.
Rodders.

Hi
These belong to the genus Agaricus a difficult genus which often requires a microscope to be certain to identify to species. We don't advise on edibility - see the "Forum rules" above.
These do not pose a threat to anyone and can just be left to do their job. As they have reached maturity (dark spores on gills) clearly anyone else who may have come across them has left them alone as well.
regards
Chris

PS your comment about seeing them "for the first time" is probably down to all the rather unseasonable rain we have been experiencing lately . . .
