Yes, it's a very interesting phenomenon - and that photo in the article to which you link is superb!

The article refers to research carried out by the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences

I put up a thread on the subject in 2015 not long after the paper was published: - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=295

In the first post of the thread is a link to the download of that full research paper by Institute of Bio- and Geosciences. - Worth reading! ;)

Thanks Mike. Have downloaded to full research paper, which I will try and find time to read. Re; Andrea's reply. I guess the occasional hair-ice seen here is Exidiopsis effusa. I have an awful lot of dead wood and fallen trees.
