Xanthoria species

Post by CJohnsonOHBR » Sat Aug 01, 2015 3:58 pm

I would appreciate an opinion on these two photographs please.
Do I have Xanthoria parietina or is the first photograph possibly X. aureola?
Growing on coastal rocks (Lewisian gneiss) on the island of Vatersay (NL6297). Both species have been recorded on this island.
I have high resolution photographs if a more detailed view would help.
Many thanks
Christine

Hi Chris, I think strongly they are as you say - first X aureola, the X parietina - might need Jenny, but looks right to me, especially with the lobe layout and lack of apothecia on the first pic.
Cheers

Thanks Ken, it's always good to have a second opinion.
