Re: Puccinia caricina var, ribesii-pendulae on Pendulous Sedge

Thanks for a really entertaining talk, Nigel. I was walking yesterday and was inspired to look for old decaying weeds to bring home, much to the chagrin of the other half, who only wants to look for "proper fungi" :D

Quite right, didn't realise it was so comprehensive. Also covers fungi parasitic on rust! What a diverse kingdom!

Literature & resources for rusts and smuts

I took a look at the available literature for rusts & smuts and what is currently available. Would anyone like to share their thoughts on this? Or have an opinion on the books below. Or have any additional resources worth adding? The wikipedia page is quite detailed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rust...

USB microscope

Just bought one of these for macro work, hope it will be good for hairs, counting gills on mycenas, looking at rust fbs, presence of (larger) cystidia etc. I'll let you know, only cost £12.75. Anyone else using one?

3 for ID please

Before I do microscopy/keying, do any of these jump out as obvious to ID. None had distinctive smells. 1) I think this is Turf mottlegill /Panaeolus fimicola (growing in sheep pasture) - cap diameter to 3cm P1100274-001.JPG P1100277.JPG 2) Growing in dog-walking park under Acer - cap diameter to 4cm...
