Re: Fungus on grass stem

Ah I see, I'll keep a look out on nearby grasses to see if they develop the same fungus. Perhaps I might find one that's mature!

Thanks a lot, James

Re: Fungus on grass stem

Hi Chris
I have tried to mount a bit of the black stuff on a slide. What should I be looking out for?

Re: Fungus on grass stem

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your response. What sort of microscopy is necessary? I will try and work out the exact host tomorrow. Grass ID is something I've been really working on recently although I've barely made any progress and I really am helpless at it!

Fungus on grass stem

Yesterday I came across this microfungus on a grass stem in my garden. It appeared to have killed the end of the grass stem, although the rest still seemed very healthy. There was a yellow band separating the dead bit and the healthy green bit. If anyone knows what this could be then that would be g...

Mushroom on Oak/Beech tree

Hello This single mushroom was found at the very base of a trunk of what is either an Oak or a Beech tree. I thought it was either a Pluteus or an Entoloma although I can't find any species that fit from either. I am in the process of getting spores so if they are needed then I will send photos & me...

Re: Large fungus, Agaric?

Hi Adam

Where are you seeing the yellow staining? I cannot see anything that looks as bright as the photos of A. xanthodermus in Phillips.
The smell is aniseed, suggesting A. arvensis I presume.

Large fungus, Agaric?

Hello I was quite surprised to come across these in a dingy dark fenced path yesterday. They were growing under a Lawson Cypress, other trees nearby include Oak, Birch and Apple. Although they appear to have a cortina, this didn't leave behind any noticeable rings on the stipe. It is adjacent to an ...
