Fungus on Holly leaf

Hello

Today in West Sussex I came across this small orange fungus on the top side of a holly leaf, not one that I've knowingly come across before. I do still have the leaf so if any microscopic work needs to be done on it, then I should be able to do that.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Laboulbenia on a carabid beetle

Hi Chris Thanks a lot for your comment. I wasn't even sure if it was fungal when I first saw it, so I'm amazed that it's possible to identify it (tentatively at least)! I'm fairly sure of the identity of the beetle. I'll definitely keep an eye out for more of this fungus on my beetle specimens. Best...

Re: Laboulbenia on a carabid beetle

The beetle has been identified as Patrobus atrorufus, a widespread beetle in the tribe Patrobini found in woodlands and wet grasslands.

Laboulbenia on a carabid beetle

Hello At the end of last year I collected a few carabid (ground beetle) specimens from my local nature reserve, yet it was not until today when trying to identify some of them that I noticed one had some sort of parasitic fungus growing on the rear of the pronotum and around the edge of the elytra t...

Re: Immature myxomycete for ID

Thanks Mike,

I'll try to mature any immature slime moulds I find in the future. Very interesting organisms.

Mycena

This Mycena was found growing on the trunk of a Silver Birch tree yesterday in Tilgate Park, Crawley, Sussex. It was growing at about head height. Any ID help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
James

Immature myxomycete for ID

Hello everyone

Today on a West Weald Fungus Recording Group meeting I found this immature slime mould on a piece of rotten wood (probably Beech). As it's an immature I didn't collect any. Is it possible to ID as it's not mature?

Thanks,
James

Re: Fungus on grass stem

Ah I see, I'll keep a look out on nearby grasses to see if they develop the same fungus. Perhaps I might find one that's mature!

Thanks a lot, James
