Re: field mushroom

I'm going to leave this post here as a warning to those who are only interested in fungi for eating. Most of us in this website are wildlife enthusiasts of one sort or another. When you ask for an ID, we give an answer based on a reasonable amount of certainty suitable for recording a biological rec...

Re: Identification please.

Probably sulphur tuft, but a gill shot would help. Don't be afraid over turning one over, it won't bite :)

Re: Destroying angel?

A. citrina has an aroma of raw potatoes. Its quite distinctive. Its also not toxic :)

A virosa should have a sac-like volva rather than a bulbous base. I can see the white velar remnants on the cap.

Re: Fungi ID please

Welcome to UK Fungi! It superficially looks like an Agaricus species but these all have a ring AFAIK. It's possible the ring has come off. If you read through some of the other recent posts before posting, you'll see what information we need to get anywhere with an ID Cutting in half along the stem ...

Re: Golf ball fungi ID please...

Looking at fairly random images online, which returns results from variable quality website, is not the best approach. Anyone can upload a photo, mis-identify it and then the world thinks their image is correct. Better to get a good guidebook. We have a list of good books and more reputable online r...

Also, a clear shot of the base and ring when it has fully developed.

Re: Golf ball fungi ID please...

I would guess Chlorophyllum brunneum but its immature and a photo in a couple of days would help.

Re: field mushroom

Its not a "field mushroom", it's a "lawn mushroom" :D Seriously though, it's a member of the Agaricus genus, but getting to species is not easy, and is not considered gospel, as the genus needs to be updated in line with DNA work. Conventional ID with Kibby's synoptic key requires smell, cutting in ...

Re: A Novice Fungi picking expedition

Thanks for your reply! I spent the whole of last night reading up about fungi identification and realised that there were quite a few things that I need to do so forgive my ignorance. This, combined with the toxicity of some of these fungi resulted in my reluctance in picking some of them. I though...
