Re: Growing on wood chippings

Very many thanks Andreas! It was one of my suspicions, but the brown (rather than orange) colouring of the cap kept me in doubt. It's good to have an expert confirm.

Best wishes to you

Growing on wood chippings

I found this yesterday growing on a path covered with wood chippings of unknown origin. I would greatly appreciate any help in identification.

Many thanks.

Fungus by an Italian lake 2

This is the second fungus. It is growing on the recently inundated roots of Phragmites reed. The water line has receded many metres leaving the root mounds exposed. Thanks for any comments on its possible id.

Fungus by an Italian lake 1

We came across two fungi on an excursion to Lake Vico in Central Italy (510 masl) in November. I would appreciate any comments on their id and will post one here and the other in a separate message. (I did not take the pictures.) This one was found in grazed grassland remote from the water's edge. M...

Bracket on dead wood

I'd be grateful if someone could confirm the id of this bracket. Found on dead wood (hazel I think) in deciduous woodland last October. Many thanks.

Re: Fungus seen in central Italy1

Thank you very much Andreas. Now that you point it out I can recall seeing it in the UK growing on buried poplar roots. Great work!

This is the second one. Still on dead elm. Thanks for any suggestions, as before.

Fungus seen in central Italy1

I would be very grateful for any guidance on the ids of two fungi seen on wood (I believe a dead elm) in central Italy in November. This is the first one, the other will be in my next post.

Re: hedgerow fungus

Thank you Chris and Adam. You can tell that I had some big doubts. Thanks for the clarification!

hedgerow fungus

I believe that this fungus could be Lepista saeva but would be grateful for clarification (or refutation). It was found under a hedgerow in an arable field and its (faint) spore print was certainly pinkish. The colours of the cap and stipe keep me doubting.
