Steatoda bipunctata?

I'm hoping there may be somebody who knows a bit about those eight-legged things out there. Is this Steatoda bipunctata? Seems to fit on abdominal patterning but I'm not really up on spiders.

Collected 29/I/2018, Ilkeston, VC57

Thanks in advance.

Re: Microfungus on Garden Pansy

Update

After staining in Congo Red, there appears to be 0 - 2 septa (2 being exceptional) in the spores therefore I think we can safely conclude Ramularia agrestis var. agrestis Many thanks once again.

Re: Microfungus on Garden Pansy

Many thanks Chris for such a swift, informative and comprehensive reply. Ellis and Ellis describe R. agrestis as amphigenous and that was where I had ruled it out so yes, something stupid. Next time I shall use that to inform but not eliminate my selection. I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment...

Microfungus on Garden Pansy

Can anybody enlighten me on what is causing the spotting on my Garden Pansy, Viola X wittrockiana leaves. I am assuming it is a hyphomycete. Apologies if this should have gone in the plant diseases forum, not quite sure what the protocol is with these. Location: Ilkeston,VC57 Date: 21/xi/2017 Pale b...

Re: Downy mildew on Guelder Rose

Thanks Chris. I've passed it on to a mycologist to have a look at. I will update when I get a response.

Downy mildew on Guelder Rose

Whilst out walking today I came across a Guelder Rose, Viburnum opulus . Noticing some yellowing of the leaves I flipped one over and noticed a greyish fuzz. I brought it home and under the dissecting microscope it appears to be downy mildew like in appearance and a portion under the compound micros...

Re: Microfungus on dead Bramble stem

That doesn't look like a bramble stem to me. I would say Hogweed or something similar. Sorry can't help with the fungus.

Lichen spot tests

This is more of a hypothetical question than something I am planning in the near future but looking at the hypochlorite test on lichens. The BLS website suggests that sodium hypochlorite may give false results because of the sodium ions present and suggesting calcium hypochlorite as the suitable rea...
